What’s The Latest On Ginseng
Published by readabook on April 4th, 2008 | Tagged Mental, Energy boosters
According to Pamela Allardice author of Natural Remedies A-Z ginseng powder will help regulate the body temperature as it is an ‘alterative’ or body restorer. She recommends overcoming fatigue by drinking a cup of ginseng tea. She also suggests chewing the fresh or dried root, or add a pinch of the extract to food when cooking, to help regulate temperature imbalances and dizziness during hot weather. For dried root put a 1/2 teaspoon in a cup of water, bring to a boil and simmer gently for 10 minutes. Drink this three times a day.
Dr. Isadore Rosenfeld said recently “This popular herb has long been used to boost energy, increase sex drive, prolong life and improve appetite. However, most of the research supporting its effectiveness was performed on animals. Try it if you like but don’t take ginseng if you have heart disease, diabetes, high blood pressure or are taking an anticoagulent.

Published by readabook on March 26th, 2008 | Tagged Diet, Digestive Disorders
I had never heard of probiotic food before I saw this article in the health section of our local paper. I am familiar with digestive enzymes which are a form of digestive health supplements and have taken them with great success when I had a digestive problem that I couldn’t seem to rid of. Probiotics apparently can assist you with restoring digestive health.
There is a book out called The Probiotics Revolution by Gary Huffnagle. Huffnagle is professor of internal medicine, microbiology and immunology at University of Michigan Medical Center. Huffnagle defines probiotics as “friendly microbes that normally live in our digestive tracts and that are naturally found in fermented foods such as yogurt, aged cheese and certain pickles.”
There are three types of probiotics - one that stays in your system for a day or two after ingestion, one that stays for a few weeks and one that stays permanently. “Most of the products that are on the market are in the second category” says Huffnagle. According to Huffnagle we need to encourage these good bacteria in our system and we can do that by consuming foods that are high in probiotics such as:
- Yogurt with live bacteria

What Causes Allergies?
Allergy symptoms are caused by your body overreacting to normally harmless substances that enter your body. Common allergies are pet dander and tree pollen. Rather then introduce serious medication into your body, you may want to get relief from natural and organic allergy remedies. We like AllergiClear from Native Remedies because it contains no animal products, gluten, artificial colors, flavors or preservatives, has been shown to provide effective seasonal allergy relief, and of course, is very affordble! It is made from natural food and herbal products that you might find in your pantry.

Published by admin on March 1st, 2008 | Tagged Mental
Electronic Brain Games Are Growing in Popularity
Even the large video game companies, like Nintendo, are getting into the brain game market. The games claim to stimulate minds, so that aging people can reduce their brain age. Games are produced to help with memory, cognition, and eye/hand coordination. Some active games, like WII games, can even help people stay fit!
We found BoomBaby.org . This website is fairly new, and is dedicated to baby boomers. They have a whole section of free online brain games! Now, we are not here to make any scientific claims. However, we did find the games pretty amusing, and since they claim to be brain games, we can justify the break we took to play them.

We just posted about controlling blood sugar with diabetes friendly recipes. Some people even claim that the right diet cures metabolic problems, and while we do not go that far, we do believe that the correct diet can help some people to live without symptoms, and it can help many more people to feel healthy.
Chicken Soup
Beyond diabetes, other food can really cure. Your grandmother was right about chicken soup of course. The hot liquid helps clear mucus and lets you breath better. But beyond that cysteine, an amino acid that’s released by cooked chicken. It’s chemically similar to a bronchitis drug, acetylcysteine, and it works with other soup ingredients to reduce inflammation. Salty broth also helps thin mucus.
Hot Tea
Not only is the hot liquid and vapor of hot tea soothing, anti-oxidants help reduce inflammation and fight viruses.
Spicy and Pungent Foods
Garlic and onions can help your body resist infection. And of course, anybody who has eaten peppers and felt their nose run, knows that they are a powerful decongestent. Ginger can help sooth nausea.
