Dr. Oz has some very good information about healthy bacteria and what it can and can’t do for your body:

Healthy Digestive Tract – Your GI tract is one great big immune system says Dr. Oz. The GI tract has both good and bad bacteria in it. You have to help make sure the good bacteria wins the war and you can do this by consuming such bacteria as L. casei, L bulgaricus and L. acidophilus. All these bacteria help bolster your immune system.

Decrease lactose intolerance -Consuming yogurt with live cultures, such L. bulgaricus and S. thermophilus helps break down lactose which is the sugar in milk that causes some people to have gas and stomach pain.

Help digestion – Some yogurt contains Bifidus regularis or Bacillus coagulans, which reduce the time it takes for food to pass through your system.

Prevent ulcers - Probiotics in yogurt with live cultures eaten just once a week may keep H. pylori, the bacteria behind ulcers, from sticking to your intestinal walls.

Prevent UTI – Women with chronic urinary tract infections often have lower than normal levels of lactobacillus. Low levels of lactobacillus can weaken your ability to fight off bacteria.

Ease side effects from antibiotics – Antibiotis can erase good and bad bacteria from your digestive system which can cause painful gas. Studies show that probiotics taken with or after antibiotics can help with the side effects.

Relief from IBS symptoms – If you have irritable bowel syndrome, you either have diarrhea or constipation. Live bacteria such bifidobacterium, spore-formers or magnesium may help.

Probiotics are the good bacteria that help your digestive system. Though you can find probiotics in many foods both Dr. Oz and Dr. Mike recommend taking a probiotic supplement on a regular basis to keep your digestion system healthy. Dr. Mike says though you can get probiotics in food easily, but a supplement is more reliable.

Bowtrol Probiotic contains 9 Billion live probiotic cells, more than 5 times the live active cultures typically found in yogurt, but without the sugar and calories. Unlike many other probiotics, the Bowtrol Probiotic is specially designed to survive the acidic stomach environment and be delivered to the intestines. Dr. Oz does caution to avoid probiotics if your immune system is weakened, if your are about to have surgery or are recovering from surgery.
