How do Probiotics Work

Here is an interesting bit of information about foods that have probiotic bacteria from Dr. Oz. The latest research has indicated that the bacteria in your digestive system may play a role in how slim or pudgy you are. The good bacteria that live in your intestines called probiotics break down food, help you absorb certain nutrients, keep your immune system strong and keep away bad bacteria that causes diarrhea, ulcers and urinary tract infections. Probiotics can also help ease irritable bowel syndrome.

Apparently now there is evidence that bad bacteria can make you fat. In one study, obese people were three times more likely than lean people to have a virus called Ad-26 in their digestive tracts – a bug known to make chickens fatter. Also, some intestinal bacteria seem to trigger bigger appetites and a tendency to store more calories as fat.

Dr. Oz suggests that your best bet to prevent this bacteria from getting into your system or get it out of your system is to feed your body special prebiotic fibers called inulin and oligosaccharides. Get these from bananas, asparagus, onions and garlic; also, dandelion greens, Jerusalem artichokes and jicama. Apples may help too, as will barley, berries, tomatoes, honey, flaxseed and beans.

In addition both he and Dr. Mike recommend taking a probiotic supplement on a regular basis even if your healthy. Dr. Mike says though you can get probiotics in food easily, but a supplement is more reliable.

Bowtrol Probiotic contains 9 Billion live probiotic cells, more than 5 times the live active cultures typically found in yogurt, but without the sugar and calories. Unlike many other probiotics, the Bowtrol Probiotic is specially designed to survive the acidic stomach environment and be delivered to the intestines.
