The American Heart Association says there is no one Mediterranean diet but here is what it usually includes: • high consumption of fruits, vegetables, bread and other cereals, potatoes, beans, nuts and seeds • olive oil is an important monounsaturated fat source • dairy products, fish and poultry are consumed in low to moderate amounts, and little red meat is eaten • eggs are consumed zero to four times a week • wine is consumed in low to moderate amounts Mediterranean diet and lifestyle seem to be more conducive to healthier weight levels and longevity plus you get to eat stuff that actually tastes like something. So hopefully we are in agreement here that the Mediterranean diet is a good idea. Also you are always hearing about how the French eat a high-fat diet, enjoy rich desserts, drink wine and still have better cardiovascular health than the rest of us.
Also you are always hearing about how the French eat a high-fat diet, enjoy rich desserts, drink wine and still have better cardiovascular health than the rest of us.
One of the big differences in the French diet versus the American diet is red wine which is bursting with health benefits. Besides being good for your heart, it may also aid in the fighting against gum disease, a Canadian study reports. Danish researchers report, people who buy wine tend to buy healthier food than those who purchase beer. Research also indicates that light to moderate drinking may help you lose weight…

The important antioxidant in red wine that does so much good is resveratrol. In addition to wine, resveratrol is also found in grape skins, blueberries, cranberries and other plants, and recent animal and in vitro studies indicate that it can have a positive effect on helping to maintain healthy cholesterol levels, supporting insulin health and optimizing metabolic and immune pathways that protect cells and improve mitochondrial function.

There is a new product out which is different than other diet supplements in that it uses a combination of natural and herbal ingredients designed to help the body stay healthy while losing weight. How? By mimicking certain aspects of the Mediterranean diet.

The product is called
Resveratrol Select. And one capsule of Resveratrol Select includes as much resveratrol as 200 glasses of wine—without the added calories of alcohol. But consuming resveratrol alone isn’t enough to help with weight loss—so the manufacturers of Resveratrol Select also added a different type of antioxidant, Green Tea Extract (EGCG), over time, green tea consumption helps increase metabolism, burn fat and reduce fat storage due to its caffeine and L-theanin content, which can be helpful in maintaining energy for exercise. The supplement also contains Chromium. Chromium, a niacin-based mineral that plays an important role in how the body uses insulin to burn sugars, carbohydrates, fats, and proteins for energy

You have tried hair products guaranteed to bring results but have had no luck. Dr Oz says take a look at your diet and your hair. Here is a list of the tops foods for better hair according to Dr. Mehmet Oz who you have probably seen on Oprah or on his own show on cable – The Dr. Oz show. Salmon – Omega-3-rich foods such as salmon and sardines help seal in your hair’s shine. Distilled fish oils or DHA supplement (this essential fatty acid is an Omega 3 fat, which is found in cold water fish) will work too. Oz recommends 2g of fish oil if you’re taking a supplement that contains both EPA and DHA. If you’re taking DHA alone, you need only 600 mg. Bran - Bran is rich in Vitamin B, which may slow hair loss and promote hair growth. Other B-rich foods include beans, peas, carrots, cauliflower, soybeans, nuts and eggs. You look amazingly young for your age but your hair is still getting thinner on your head and thicker in other places you don’t want it to.

Increase the fiber in your diet and your hair may grow faster.

Avocados – The whole fruit as well as avocado oil may prevent some of the things that kill hair follicles – dihydrotestosterone (DHT) – from getting where it wants to go.

Animal Fat - Cut our animal as well as palm and coconut oils (these oils raise your cholesterol) which lead to more DHT production and hair-follicle damage.

Green Tea – Brew a strong pot (leave tea steeping for 5 to 7 minutes), cool, then pour over your hair. This will help kill off dandruff causing fungus. Oz also says if you drink green tea with caffeine in it the tea may help prevent balding. Green tea works either on your hair directly or in your diet and your hair.

Dr OZ mentions reducing animal fat. Here are some other things to avoid and some other things to try when trying to increase hair thickness and growth:

 1. Eliminate or cut back on smoking, caffeine and carbonated sodas which weaken the body and block maximum hair growing potential.
2. Avoid foods that are high in sugar.
3. Avoid any unnecessary brushing, combing or handling.
4. Avoid use of hot water, hot blow dryers or other hair care tools that may stress the hair.
5. Have a weekly scalp massage to provide stimulation to the hair follicles.
6. Do a series of ongoing hot oil treatments to protect the hair’s shaft.
7. Have regular trims to eliminate split ends and allow the hair to look and feel healthier.
8. Get plenty of rest and sleep to allow your body to grow hair.

Some of the foods that help produce healthy hair also help prevent cancer such as carrots and beans. So by eating these foods you are getting a double benefit. Want to find out Dr. Oz’s other choices for foods that help to prevent cancer? See our post =>
