Convenience – It tastes good, is inexpensive and easy to cook and is easy to find all year. To get the most from your broccoli, steam it to preserve its health-giving compounds, and eat it with a little canola oil enriched with DHA to allow your body to absorb them best.

Dr. Perricone says “Raw is best for preserving sulforaphane levels in vegetables; however, if you cannot tolerate raw vegetables, lightly steaming is an excellent option. Many cruciferous vegetables, like broccoli, are available in sprouted form which is a potent source of sulfurophane and an ideal addition to salads, wraps and sandwiches”.

Ancient Egyptians saw the onion as a symbol of eternity, and that belief may not have been far from reality. Today, science is showing that onions may promote longevity by keeping cancer in check.
Beta Cryptoxanthin and Arthritis According to Dr. Oz many of our common breakfast beverages can have a positive impact on our health. Coffee, apple juice and orange juice can help reduce the risk of cancer, improve memory function and keep joint inflammation in check. Coffee - Cuts the risk of ovarian cancer, liver cancer, and diabetes, for people who drink four 8 ounce cups a day. Apple Juice - Maintains the level of an all important brain chemical, acetylcholine, which helps keep memory and learning skills sharp. Researchers say the positive effect they saw on the mice came from the equivalent of drinking two good-sized glasses of apple juice or eating 2-3 apples a day. See this quick video on the effects of apple juice on memory. Orange Juice - Relieves joint inflammation. Although its vitamin C is an anti-inflammatory, some of the joint-preserving credit likely goes to another compound in oranges – beta cryptoxanthin. Social BookmarkingNo related posts.
According to Dr.

The soup increases peristalsis, slows down any diarrhea-creating bacteria growth, and also overcomes the need to vomit. Use carrot soup for an entire week, and meanwhile, as soon as the infant seems ready for additional food, you can add bananas to the diet.

Poultice – For a healing and antiseptic poultice for use on cuts, wounds, abscesses, and inflammations, use either raw, grated carrots or cooked, mashed carrots.

Here are some of research studies that show what are the benefits of eating carrots.

In a study attempting to prove the therapeutic value of carrots researchers at the Wolfson Gastrointestinal Laboratory in Edinburgh, Scotland showed that cholesterol level reduces by 11 percent if seven ounces of raw carrots a day is consumed for three weeks.

A study conducted at the Mario Negri Institute of Pharmacological Research in Italy found subjects that ate more carrots had one third the risk of heart attack as compared with those who ate fewer carrots.

British researchers discovered that increasing beta-carotene consumption from 1.7 to 2.7 milligrams a day reduced lung cancer risk more than 40 percent. The average carrot contains about three milligrams of Beta-carotene. In another cancer related study, researchers found that eating carrots reduced the risk of colon cancer by as much as 24 percent.

Researches found that people who ate the most Beta-carotene had a forty percent lower risk of macular degeneration compared with those who consumed the least.

Diet to Prevent Colon Cancer Dr. Oz says one in 19 Americans will be diagnosed with colon cancer at some point, and many aren’t taking any preventive measures. There are many foods to prevent colon cancer which you can include in your diet. Dr. Oz also mentions vitamin B6, baby aspirin and coffee as part of your diet to prevent colon cancer. Read on to find out why you should include the following foods in your diet. Fish - In a large, 22 year study, men who ate fish five times a week had a 40% lower risk of colorectal cancer than men who didn’t. Salmon is your best bet because it has a high concentration of vitamin D which has been shown to be effective in preventing colon cancer. Whole grains – More highly processed products made with refined flour can create a sluggish insulin response and make the environment in your colon more friendly to tumors. Beans - and celery, radishes, cucumbers, peppers and onions, are high in flavonols, compounds that help prevent colon polyps. Studies show that diets high in flavonols were 76% less likely to be associated with recurring advanced-stage polyps. Coffee – I was surprised [...]

Coffee – I was surprised to find coffee on the list of foods to prevent colon cancer but it seems coffee is a good source of chlorogenic acid., Chlorogenic acid is a compound believed to slow glucose absorption during digestion and it has been shown to help prevent colon cancer.

Sources of Vitamin B6 – Spinach, bananas, ready to eat cereal which 100% fortified, potatoes and chicken breasts are all good sources of vitamin B6 (National Institute of Health) If you get about 4 mg of B6 a day you can reduce your risk of colon cancer by up to 30%.

The last thing Dr. Oz recommends to add to your diet to prevent colon cancer is two baby aspirin per day. Apparently it can cut your risk as much as 40%. But ask your doctor first to make sure it won’t interfere with other medication.

Anything that helps your digestive system work better is going to help in some small way to prevent cancer. Taking a daily digestive supplement can help your digestive system work better and stay healthier. Gastronic Dr. is a natural product that promotes healthy digestion and encourages comfort after meals. A better balanced digestive system means less bouts of diarrhea and gas. The herbs used in Gastronic Dr. have been specifically selected and are suitable to use in conjunction with prescription and over-the-counter medication, if required. Click on the banner below to find out more about improving your digestive system naturally.

Red or purple grapes – Grapes ae high in resveratrol, an antioxidant that’s been shown to inhibit growth of cancer cells (specifically breast, stomach, colon and leukemia).

Lemons – They contain a group of chemicals called limonoids, which have been shown to protect against breast, lung, skin and colon cancer.

Mushrooms - Certain mushrooms such as shitake, are loaded with beta-glucans, which stimulate your body’s production of cancer-fighting natural killer cells.

Cranberries – They’re high in an antioxidant that’s been found in studies to fight leukemia, breast, lung and colon cancer cells. You can get them dried or in juice form. Add them to your salad or mix cranberry juice with orange juice for a tangy treat.

Yogurt – It is a rich source of probiotics, the “good” bacteria in your gut, that help keep “bad” bacteria away, especially H. pylori, which is linked to esophageal and stomach cancer. The H. pylori bacteria also causes ulcers. Try greek yogurt if you don’t like the taste of yogurt. Greek yogurt is thicker and sweeter than regular yogurt and comes in lots of great flavors.

Garlic and Onions - According to the National Institutes of Health, studies of people from Southern Europe who eat a diet high in garlic and onions show a direct relationship between high consumption of “allium” vegetables (all types of garlic, onions, and leeks) and reduced risk of many common cancers.

Parsley – Parsley is a good source of vitamin C, iron and flavonoids, which the American Institute for Cancer Research says may help protect cells from cancer. Fresh parsley can be added to salads and fresh or dried parsley is a good addition to chicken and fish dishes. Chimichurri sauce used on beef uses a whole cup of fresh parsley.

Turmeric – The University of Arizona College of Medicine says curcumin, the active ingredient in this Indian spice, helps prevent joint inflammation associated with rheumatoid arthritis. Ruthers University researchers say turmeric may also slow the spread of prostate cancer. Turmeric is typically used in Indian dishes.

Sage – A University of Georgia study suggests that sage can prevent tissue damage caused by hgih blood sugar and may even offer protection against cardiovascular disease. Sage is great on chicken and turkey dishes.

Rosemary – Scientists from Burnham Institute for Medical Research found that rosemary can help protect brain cells from the aging process and from damage caused by the free radicals that lead to Alzheimer’s. Rosemary, olive oil and garlic is wonderful brushed on potatoes before roasting. Rosemary and lemon is very tasty on chicken.

Cinnamon – The U.S. Department of Agriculture says cinnamon may lower cholesterol, reduce blood sugar, and slow the proliferation of cancerous cells in people with leukemia. Cinnamon tastes good in coffee, oatmeal, applesauce and many baked good.

Natural Cancer Prevention Here is an easy and cheap way to cut your chance of death from breast cancer disease – exercise. Five hours a week of walking or any moderate aerobic workout reduces your risk by more than half according to a new study from the University of South Carolina. And just 20 minutes will reduce the risk by a third. Researchers say this study, involving more than 14,000 women, is the first to objectively connect fitness levels and the risk of dying from breast cancer. Will exercise cut your chances of getting the disease in the first place? Other studies say it will by about 20 percent. Here are some ways to get in your 20 minutes a day: 1. Take the stairs instead of the elevator. 2. Park your car far away from your building and walk briskly or if it is not a safe area walk around your building a few times or just walk around the front part of the parking lot. 3. Get a group of friends together to walk. 4. Get one of those walking DVD’s and walk in front of your television. 5. March in place and get your heart rate up [...]

How To Look 10 Years Younger There is huge line of products out there promising to make us look younger. But you know there are so many natural ways to slow the aging process and most of them are very inexpensive. AOL Health did a great post on home remedies for anti-aging. They asked their readers for their own home grown remedies and here are some of their tips: Stress Less Stress can cause us to tense our facial muscles which causes wrinkles and can be hard on our entire body. Our bodies are not designed to be in the “fight” mode all the time. Learning how to get rid of those stressful feelings can go along way toward keeping your body young not to mention lower your blood pressure. Many people say meditation is the best way to de-stress but you can also do breathing exercises, take a relaxing bath, listen to soothing music, do yoga, or exercise.
How To Look 10 Years Younger

There is huge line of products out there promising to make us look younger. But you know there are so many natural ways to slow the aging process and most of them are very inexpensive. AOL Health did a great post on home remedies for anti-aging. They asked their readers for their own home grown remedies and here are some of their tips:

Stress Less

Stress can cause us to tense our facial muscles which causes wrinkles and can be hard on our entire body. Just pick one that works for you and you will feel so much better and look younger too.

Keep Covered

Minimize your exposure to strong sun. You probably know the sun is strongest during 10 am and 2 pm. If you can avoid being out in the sun during those times, it is like taking a magic anti-aging pill. Stay out of tanning booths at all times. You need some sun exposure to get the proper amount of Vitamin D. See our post Safely Avoid Vitamin D deficiencies – Sun Exposure. If you are out in the sun make sure you use sunscreen. You will keep your skin smooth and reduce your chance of getting skin cancer. Also wear a hat. So many people forget to do this. Wearing a wide brimmed hat will keep you cooler and protect the delicate skin on your face. If you color your hair, it will also prevent your color from fading.

Moisturize at Any Price

One AOL Health respondent said “Another friend said this is what works for him: “Slather on moisturizer twice a day. It doesn’t matter how expensive or cheap the moisturizer is, as long as it is slathered on. If you have money for a more expensive one, good, but any will do.” I can speak from personal experience and tell you that does work. My skin is still very soft even though I am older because I have always used moisturizer. I put mine on right after I step out of the shower so the water gets locked in my skin.
