Spring is coming and for asthma sufferers that means the possibility of an asthma attack is more likely. Here are 10 inexpensive, natural and easy ways to asthma prevention.
1. Air pollutants such as ozone are at higher levels in the springtime and summertime. You can look at your local newspaper each day to check the air quality numbers or you can type in “what is the air quality today in….” By knowing the air quality you can limit your exposure on “bad days”.
2. When you are checking out air quality don’t forget pollen counts. Try to limit exposure on days that are hot, dry and windy.
3. Avoid bringing the pollen inside by taking a shower after spending time outdoors. Also, don’t dry your clothes on a clothesline. Pollen will fall on your clothes as they are outside drying.
4. You can help take better control of your disease by learning more about it. Check out reputable web sites and educate yourself.
5. If you are going to do spring cleaning you can limit your exposure to dust and mold by wearing a mask.
Homes are exposed to many viruses and germs. Tea tree oil is naturally anitseptic and is an excellent natural way to keep your home clean. Tea Tree Oil is actually a very powerful antiseptic and has been proven to be ten to thirteen times stronger than the number one chemical antiseptic, carbolic acid. So cleaning and washing with Tea Tree Oil provides a safe, natural cleaning enviornment for the entire family.
Cleaning – Purchase a Tea Tree Oil cleaning product and use all around the house.
Humidifier – Add ten drpos of oil to the humdifier and it will clean the air and leave it smelling fresh.
Diffuser – Adding several drops to a diffuser will add a fresh scent. Because they are portable, they can be carried from room to room or taken on trips.
Vaporizer – Add ten drops of pure oil to water, leave in room to help alleviate stuffiness, allergies, headaches and flu symptoms.
Fennel seed which is known as natural way to ease mild digestive disorders such as an upset stomach or flatulence has an interesting history. According to Pamela Allardice author of Natural Remedies A-Z, “Greek athletes training for their Olympic games consumed fennel seed to give them strength and to keep their weight under control. Fennel was thought to be a slimming agent, and a possible derivation for its Greek nickname, marathon, is marathron, meaning to grow thinner. Fennel seeds were also used to allay hunger pangs, in much the same way dill seeds were.” You might even say fennel seeds are a weight loss food.
Fennel is a carminative and digestive herb and has been used for centuries to alleviate colic and flatulence. You can chew the seeds or drink fennel tea. Sometimes in Indian or Middle Eastern food markets you can find candied fennel which tastes good (has a slight licorice taste). You can also find fennel seeds in the spice section of your grocery store. You can make your own fennel tea by bruising (use a mortal and pestle) two teaspoons of fennel seeds in one cup boiling water and steep for ten minutes. Drink the tea up to three times a day.
According to the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases each year more than 50 million Americans suffer from allergic diseases. Allergies are the 6th leading cause of chronic disease in the United States, costing the health care system $18 billion annually. Approximately 16.7 million office visits to health care providers each year are attributed to allergic rhinitis.
Though it is often difficult to diagnose the causes of allergies there are some simple things you can do to make your home enviornment less hospitable to allergens:
1) Cleanliness is very important. Frequent dusting, removing knick knacks that collect dust is highly recommended.
2) Get rid of wall to wall carpeting if at all possible and use hardwood floors or tiles. A friend of mine recently removed almost all their wall to wall carpeting and said she got immediate relief. Another friend of mine who has a child with asmtha also got rid of all their draperies and replaced them with wooden blinds. Minimize the presence of stuffed animals also.
3) Put mattresses inside allergen covers or zip up plastic covers. The plastic ones are cheaper than the allergen ones but both covers keep dust mites from escaping from mattresses.
Lavender Oil – The Most Useful Natural Essential Oil
I am never without a vial of lavender oil. It is one of the most useful essential oils. According to Pamela Allardice who wrote Natural Remedies A-Z, Â lavender is naturally soothing, antiseptic and has anti-inflammatory properties. Lavender Oil can be used to make an effective mouthwash, skin tonic, and eye lotion, and helps to treat mild infections or irritations, such as cuts, insect bites and fungal infections.
You can add a few drops to the bath to soothe skin troubled by a rash. Allerdice also recommends combing lavender oil with other scented oils from its own plant family such as marjoram and rosemary and an unscented carrier oil such apricot kernel oil to scent the skin and stimulate circulation. Lavender oil also blends well with geranium or rose essential oil.
Lavender oil helps regenerate skin cells and is excellent for burns especially sunburn and chapping. Â Lavender oil clears up pimples faster than any other product I have tried. Lavender is also known as the headache herb. You can buy lavender tea and drink it when you have a headache or you can dab the oil on your forehead or temples.
Allergy symptoms are caused by your body overreacting to normally harmless substances that enter your body. Common allergies are pet dander and tree pollen. Rather then introduce serious medication into your body, you may want to get relief from natural and organic allergy remedies. We like AllergiClear from Native Remedies because it contains no animal products, gluten, artificial colors, flavors or preservatives, has been shown to provide effective seasonal allergy relief, and of course, is very affordble! It is made from natural food and herbal products that you might find in your pantry.
