Natural Remedies for Stomach Ulcers
I woke one up morning feeling extremely nauseous. The nausea lasted for about five days and then came the abdominal pain. I also had a great deal of gas and was burping constantly. Also I felt what can only be described as a gnawing feeling in my stomach.
I assumed I probably had something putrefying in my intestine. So I tried chamomile and ginger tea and digestive enzymes. I also used a cleansing detox mixture (flaxseed, pea hull fiber, alfalfa, barley and chia seed) which I drank 3 times a day. I got somewhat better but progress was very slow. After about 3 weeks I decided to look up my symptoms online. What my symptoms seem to fit was a stomach ulcer though I did not always feel discomfort after I ate.
I checked out several web sites and found some suggestions for natural remedies for stomach ulcers. One of the more popular one involved a combination of drinking vinegar and baking soda diluted in water and taking cayenne pepper and l – glutamine in capsule form. One person said they felt better almost immediately after consuming the cider vinegar/water/baking soda combination. I have to say I experienced the same thing. I did start to feel better after consuming the solution.
The same person said they were greatly relieved after a week, 90% cured after three weeks and 100% cured after 5 weeks. They also recommended cutting out alcohol and caffeine while taking the cure. I have had a similar experience. I am currently in my first week of the treatment and do feel much better. I have much less gas, burping, stomach gurgling (acid) and much less abdominal pain.
Here are the treatment dosages:
2 Tablespoons Apple Cider Vinegar and 1/4 teaspoon of baking soda dissolved in 2 cups water. The post I read said to drink this solution 3 times a day but when I consulted my physician he advised drinking it only once a day. He felt that the stomach lining might be burned by drinking the solution that frequently.
500 mg of cayenne in a capsule 3 times a day.
500 mg of Glutamine 3 times a day. Glutamins is the active ingredient in cabbage juice which has also been found helpful in curing stomach ulcers.
In doing the research searching for the cure, I also found out that while ulcers are aggravated by stress and diet they are not caused by stress and diet. According to the Center for Disease Control (CDC) ulcers are actually caused by a bacterium called h. pylori. The CDC says ulcers can be cured with a one- or two-week course of antibiotics, even for people who have had ulcers for years. Here is the link to the CDC website about ulcers www.cdc.gov/ulcer/myth.htm The problem is though some people do not have an immunity to h. pylori and become re-infected after a few weeks. So the natural cure listed above is better because it helps create an environment where h. pylori can’t live and boosts the immune response to the h. pylori infection.
