I previously posted about Attune Bars – a probiotic candy bar. The company graciously sent me a sample pack of the bars. So far I have tasted lemon creme, blueberry vanilla and wild berry. Blueberry vanilla tastes almost like one of those Hershey Cookies and Cream bars, I am not kidding. Lemon creme has a nice smooth flavor with just a bit of lemon tartness and wild berry is also good in that it does not overwhelm you with berry flavor. Sometimes berry flavored products put too much berry flavor in and I find the taste just too strong. The mango/peach bar was probably my least favorite but the taste was true. The chocolate mint bar tasted just like a candy bar. I have to admit the taste was amazing. None of the bars had that bitter aftertaste you often get with health products. I have noticed with some bars you also can get an unpleasant chemical taste but the Attune Bars have none of these drawbacks.
One of the latest trends in makeup is “mineral makeup” – products made of all natural, finely ground minerals from the earth, without any of the chemicals, dyes, and preservatives found in traditional makeup. Many dermatologists say that because mineral makeuup frequently gets rid of irritants like fragrances, binders, synthetic dyes, and preservative – it can be consider purer and kinder to the skin. Many people do experience problems with their makeup due to the synthetic dyes, fragrances and preservatives, so any makeup that eliminates these ingredients will eliminates these problems. Dermatologists even say that because titanium dioxide (an ingredient in some mineral makeups) has anti-inflammatory properties, certain mineral makeups can have a calming effect on the skin – very helpful if you suffer from inflammatory problems such as rosacea and acne. Mineral makeup is non-comedongenic, so it won’t clog pores.
Americans spent $107 billion dollars on drugs and antacids in 1992 trying to fight digestive disorders. Digestive disorders are affecting more and more of us. Obviously pharmaceuticals are not the answer. Poor digestion causes us to have stomach aches, gas and just not feel at our best. The digestive process is what powers our body – it converts food into a usable form of energy. If our body is not getting all it can from the food we consume, we tend to feel sluggish and uncomfortable. We have less energy and feel less able to cope with our daily tasks. Digestive problems are thought to be responsible for chronic fatigue, premature aging, arthritis, poor skin and hair, toxicity, allergies and cancer. But if pharmaceuticals are not the solution what is?
The answer is to help the body’s naturally occurring microorganisms do their job. More than 400 different types of bacteria live in the gastrointestinal system and some are good and some are bad. The entire body depends on the colon doing its job properly. The colon’s beneficial bacteria manufacture B vitamins including biotin, niacin, folic acid and pyridoxine. Besides producing the enzyme lactose necessary for digesting milk sugar (lactose), these microorganisms produce antibacterial substances that kill disease-causing agents such as salmonella and some type of E. coli. These bacteria make the digestive tract function at top efficiency.
