I had never heard of probiotic food before I saw this article in the health section of our local paper. I am familiar with digestive enzymes which are a form of digestive health supplements and have taken them with great success when I had a digestive problem that I couldn’t seem to rid of. Probiotics apparently can assist you with restoring digestive health.
There is a book out called The Probiotics Revolution by Gary Huffnagle. Huffnagle is professor of internal medicine, microbiology and immunology at University of Michigan Medical Center. Huffnagle defines probiotics as “friendly microbes that normally live in our digestive tracts and that are naturally found in fermented foods such as yogurt, aged cheese and certain pickles.”
There are three types of probiotics – one that stays in your system for a day or two after ingestion, one that stays for a few weeks and one that stays permanently. “Most of the products that are on the market are in the second category” says Huffnagle. According to Huffnagle we need to encourage these good bacteria in our system and we can do that by consuming foods that are high in probiotics such as:
Allergy symptoms are caused by your body overreacting to normally harmless substances that enter your body. Common allergies are pet dander and tree pollen. Rather then introduce serious medication into your body, you may want to get relief from natural and organic allergy remedies. We like AllergiClear from Native Remedies because it contains no animal products, gluten, artificial colors, flavors or preservatives, has been shown to provide effective seasonal allergy relief, and of course, is very affordble! It is made from natural food and herbal products that you might find in your pantry.
Even the large video game companies, like Nintendo, are getting into the brain game market. The games claim to stimulate minds, so that aging people can reduce their brain age. Games are produced to help with memory, cognition, and eye/hand coordination. Some active games, like WII games, can even help people stay fit!
We found BoomBaby.org . This website is fairly new, and is dedicated to baby boomers. They have a whole section of free online brain games! Now, we are not here to make any scientific claims. However, we did find the games pretty amusing, and since they claim to be brain games, we can justify the break we took to play them.
